Welcome!

About

Hi! I’m Angela, and I love to cook, eat, and travel – preferably for/with my husband, family, and friends. (Because everything is better & everyone is happier with food!) This blog is my current project in attempt to discover, practice, and hone my skills while exploring another side of myself and pursuing something different.

As a kid I never really wanted to learn how to cook (because Mom did it best!), nor did I have an interest in photography (my Dad was always the one behind the lens). I studied biomedical engineering, and figured I would find a career in the medical field. But as I ventured further from home and traveled more, I began to understand how cooking and photography could also be fulfilling (just in a different way).

I never really thought about combining the two hobbies until one day I was approached by Madison Magazine for some freelance work. I’d just gotten my first DSLR, and I thought “you’re actually asking me??” … It was really through that unique experience that this engineer rediscovered her more creative, artistic side.

My husband & I currently live in Danbury, Connecticut, but I’ve previously been in Washington, Wisconsin (go Badgers!), New York, and Ohio. Food experiences are unique to each of us, and there are infinitely many around the world. I love how they can connect and bring people together, while also teaching us how different we are. I’ve learned so much through the years, and I know there’s so much more out there. I hope that I can add to others’ knowledge through my own learning experiences, and I welcome everyone to follow along on this blog!

“What’s with the name?” For those of you who are curious … see what I did there? … I was born in the year of the Rat (mouse!) in the Chinese zodiac, so my family would consistently buy little mouse-related paraphernalia for me. I also have an over-whelming love of cheese. Coincidence? Anyway, when we first started seeing each other, my husband gave me the nickname “topolina” which means “little girl mouse” in Italian. (Although if you google it, you’ll find many references to Minnie Mouse.) The nickname has since found life in various user name forms, and I wanted to use the same sort of theme for this project.
